Södra Latins gymnasium - Upper secondary school -

Swedish students leaving the nine-year primary school can choose among 17 national programmes within the upper secondary school system. All national programmes are studied during three years after which the students can apply for higher education at universities or similar institutions. Södra Latins gymnasium offers three of these programmes: the Natural Sciences Programme, the Social Sciences Programme and the Arts Programme.

Within the Arts Programme you study either drama and dance or art and design, or music within the Specially Designed Programme. Quite a few established musicians and artists have attended Södra Latin as students. The school has a very good reputation, especially among professional musicians.

In all our programmes we offer the students the possibility of studying theoretical, artistic and cultural/historical subjects. We offer a veriety of foreign languages from English, French, Spanish, Italian and German to Chinese and Latin. It is also possible to reach wider competence within the Arts Programme. Students at the Natural Sciences and Social Sciences Programmes can choose among humanistic-scientific courses like Philosophy, Psychology and the "Scientific Conception of the World".

Approximately 900 students are enrolled at Södra Latins gymnasium. The staff are about 120.

The school is situated downtown Stockholm and dates back to the 17:th century. The present school building was inaugurated in 1892. It was completely renovated in 1996 and is today the most attractive and modern upper secondary school in Stockholm. Many well-known Swedish people in the cultural elite have spent their schoolyears at Södra Latins gymnasium.
